Do I need an NHS email address?

    Yes, you need to have an NHS email account so that you can access the online learning.

    What happens if I miss the application closing date?

    All applicants must complete and submit the application form by the closing date, midnight Sunday 14 January 2024. If you miss the application closing date then please email us if you'd still like to join the course.

    Do I need to talk to my line manager before I apply?

    Yes, you must get written approval from your manager before you apply for the course.

    What is the time commitment?

    While your actual time spent working through self-directed learning content may vary according to your learning style, we expect that you will spend around 10 hours engaging with online content. 

    The remainder will be independent study and completion of assignments which constitute around two hours a week of additional independent study.

    You will have around five weeks to directly apply your learning into practice through the final project. You should dedicate two hours a week to this.


    In summary, the total time commitment is 40 hours over six months made up of:

    Self-directed learning modules          10 hours

    Contact learning                                  10 hours

    Independent study                               20 hours

    What is a World Café?

    The World Café methodology is a simple, effective, and flexible format for hosting large group dialogue.

    This will take place after you have finished your self-directed learning, to help you to identify what the group wants to explore in more depth throughout the course.

    Is this course for clinical and non-clinical staff?

    Yes, our course is suitable for people working in clinical and non-clinical settings.

    Will I be able to apply what I learn to my role?

    Absolutely.

    We want to help you get the right staff, in the right place, at the right time, with the right skills and values to deliver the best services we can.

    You will be part of a Community of Practice and become a Workforce Champion in your working environment, using your real workforce data to plan improvements as part of your final project.

    Can I share my course materials with my team?

    You may not share any of the course materials with anyone who is not on the course. However, we encourage you to share your learning.

    All assets and materials created during the programme remain the property of NHS South, Central and West. 

    Any assets shared as part of this programme are for the personal use of the delegates and may not be shared, reproduced, or used for any purposes other than undertaking this training course, as a personal aide memoire for the delegates or as part of the monitoring of this programme. 

     

    When will I find out if I have a place on the course?

    We will tell you whether you have a place on the course on 17 January 2024.

    Successful applicants will be sent a joining pack with all of the information they need to get started on 1 February 2024.

    What does the course cost?

    The course is free.

    Swindon, Wiltshire, Avon, and Gloucestershire Cancer Alliance are funding up to 60 places for leads of services or their deputies. 

    You don't need to lead a cancer service, but you should be working with a significant number of people with cancer. 

    In return, we are looking for a firm commitment of time and motivation to make a difference for the people and communities who use your services.

    How will you keep my data safe?

    We work within the parameters laid out in NHS South, Central and West’s Information Governance Policy and in accordance with Article 13 of GDPR.

    Can I apply if I do not work in the SWAG area?

    Unfortunately not, this course is funded by SWAG Cancer Alliance.
