NHS England has in place a range of measures aimed at supporting the general practice workforce that have been introduced over time. These include:
GP recruitment and retention schemes
The introduction of new patient-facing roles in General Practice
Increased provision of health and wellbeing initiatives
We are keen to hear your views and understand the impact these measures have had, which will feed into future proposals of support for people working in general practice. This includes improving our understanding of the experience of people with protected characteristics and underrepresented groups, so we can identify any disparities in experience and any adjustments required to meet their needs.
If you work in general practice or with the general practice workforce, please take this opportunity to give us your views. We are working together to co-ordinate requests so the demands on your time are limited and the time that you do give is used effectively. There are a number of opportunities to get involved and to be heard including:
Asurvey about GP recruitment and retention schemes being run over December and January.
Focus groups about what frontline staff think is needed to strengthen workforce retention being run over January initially, to start a programme of working with you to identify further options to make primary care a great place to work.
On this page:
The deadline for survey submissions and registering for the focus groups has now passed.
For more information about the General Practice Workforce Recruitment and Retention Schemes, please see the ‘Key Documents’ section on this page.
Other planned engagement being run in the New Year includes:
A pilot of the national staff survey within PCNs and practices being run within eight systems which will be sent out over March and April
A health and wellbeing survey being run in the new year
As part of this engagement we will be working with professional bodies, colleges and representative groups to hear their perspectives of the solutions needed, and how we might work together to achieve this.
We look forward to hearing from you.
