England Dental Working Patterns Survey 2020/21 and 2021/22

Consultation has concluded

NHSEI understands that the pandemic provided new challenges to the dental profession, and this survey has been developed with this in mind: it provides an opportunity for primary care dentists to give an insight into their working lives and help us to better understand the impact the pandemic has had on working patterns and morale, as well as the extent to which measures put in place by NHSEI and DHSC have helped you.

It is important to note that this survey is anonymous, and this represents a significant change from previous surveys. To confirm, we will not be able to attribute any submission to a specific individual. We have worked with the relevant stakeholders, including BDA and GDC, to develop the questions, and we would very much like to hear the views of all dentists working in primary care. This includes dentists working solely for the NHS, those in mixed practice, and those working wholly in private practices. This will allow us to better understand the impact on one’s morale working as an NHS dentist, along with an understanding of morale in the profession as a whole. The results will be shared in spring 2022.

To help provide further support, we have collated a set of wellbeing resources, which can be found on the right-hand side of this page.

The deadline to complete this survey is Midnight on Sunday 9th January 2022.

Please note that the survey is best viewed in Google chrome or Microsoft Edge.

  • This questionnaire relates to your typical time spent in primary care dentistry in 2020/21 and also in 2021/22. In addition, there are questions regarding your dental business arrangements in those years as well as some brief questions on morale.

As with previous years this survey will look back at last year (2020/21) and at expectations for this financial year (2021/22).  The questions have been split into these periods to support completion.

Please note that the questions are slightly different than previous years due to the disruption caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic.

In your answers, please consider both NHS/Health Service and Private work.

It is estimated this survey will take 15 - 20 minutes to complete.
