The South West Renal Network's vision is to improve equity, outcomes, and experiences for kidney patients by bringing together the regional renal community.
We are now at a pivotal moment. The Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) Early Detection and Management Programme offers a unique opportunity to make measurable improvements in patient outcomes, reduce avoidable harm, and release capacity across acute services. Improving the mortality and length of stay associated with AKI is a regional commissioning priority for 2026/27.
As part of this, we’re calling on Chief Medical Officers across all South West Trusts to complete the AKI Insight Survey - a short but vital step in shaping each Trust’s personalised AKI performance report.
Your input will:
Shape a personalised AKI performance report for your Trust — benchmarking against regional peers.
Identify the potential patient and financial impact specific to your Trust.
Inform targeted improvement action plans based on robust data and frontline experience.
Highlight opportunities for clinical and operational gain, such as reducing readmissions and length of stay.
Throughout 2026/27, we will work collaboratively with every Trust to co-develop actionable improvement plans grounded in data and shared learning. This is a key step in building shared understanding and commitment, to inform the priorities for regional transformation and ensure your Trust's specific challenges and success are reflected in the programme design.
Together, we can turn the detection of AKI into positive lasting impact for patients, clinicians, and the system.
Take part in the AKI Insight Survey now to help shape your Trust’s report and our collective strategy for better kidney care.
