Sight testing in special schools for children and young people with a learning disability and autistic children and young people
This survey provided an opportunity to give your views on NHS England's proof of concept pilot (the pilot) for eyesight testing for children and young people with a learning disability and autistic children and young people attending residential special schools. The pilot, formerly known as the “Special Schools Eye Care Service”, offers children and young people an eyesight test and dispensing of glasses (where required) within their familiar school surroundings.
This survey is part of a comprehensive evaluation of the pilot, which will also involve separate engagement with the eyecare teams that have been providing in-school eyesight testing and dispensing. The outcomes of the evaluation will help to shape the future of eyesight testing for children and young people attending residential special schools as part of delivering on commitments made in the NHS Long Term Plan 2019.
