    What is the eligibility criteria for the LTC training grants?

    Learner Eligibility 

    Course Requirements

    Employment: Must be an NHS employee OR be employed by a non-profit organisation with a long-term commission or contract in place to provide NHS services in England

    Educational Background: Hold a minimum Level 6 qualification (e.g., Bachelor’s degree or equivalent).

    Work Role: Their role must directly relate to long-term condition management, allowing immediate application of new knowledge.

     

    Justification: Must demonstrate:

    • How the course aligns with their professional development needs.
    • The relevance to national healthcare objectives (e.g., tackling health inequalities, improving care pathways).
    • Tangible benefits for service delivery and patient outcomes

     

    Employer Support: Secure a written agreement from their employer, confirming:

    • Support for their participation.
    • Commitment to apply learned skills in their role.

     

    Qualification Level: Must be a Level 7 postgraduate module or course and is one of the following (postgraduate) and is one of the following a) CPD module/ short course b) postgraduate  

    certificate c) postgraduate diploma d) Masters e) level 7 award or f) level 7 NVQ

     

    Institution: Delivered by a higher education institution recognized for healthcare education.

    Focus Area: Content must primarily target long-term conditions (LTCs), specifically:

    • Cardiovascular diseases.
    • Stroke.
    • Respiratory conditions.

     Key Content Areas: Include at least one of:

    • Prehabilitation.
    • Rehabilitation.
    • Personalized care planning.

    Timing: The course or module must commence by 31st October 2025.

    What if the course I have selected is less than £3,000?

    If the cost of your chosen course is less than £3,000, only the actual course cost will be paid directly to the training provider. Any remaining funds from the £3,000 limit will not be transferred to the learner or their organisation.

    What if the course I have selected is more than £3,000?

    If your chosen course exceeds the £3,000 limit, you will be responsible for covering the remaining fees. This can be arranged through self-funding or with additional financial support from your organisation. 

    How will my application be assessed?

    Your application will be evaluated against a predefined assessment framework. This framework is available for review through the "Join the Conversation" resources.

    How will the information I provide be used?

    • Application forms will be processed by a dedicated team from NHS South, Central and West on behalf of NHSE 

    • Applications should be submitted to a secure email inbox: scwcsu.ltc.grants@nhs.net only members of the SCW programme team will have access to this. 

    • Information we will collect at the application stage will be limited to publicly available information e.g. could reasonably be found on LinkedIn or organisational profiles. 

    • Anonymised Information will be shared with an evaluation panel, the evaluation panel will be comprised of NHS England and SCW team members  

    • If you are offered a training grant, this will be conditional until we have confirmed your identity and received a signed learning agreement.  

    • If you are successful, copies of your application form and retained for 2 years and will be provided to NHSE as part of the programme handover. NHSE will be your main contact once the training grant process has been concluded.  

    What is a learner agreement?

    A learner agreement is a formal document signed by the learner and their organisational sponsor. It outlines the responsibilities and expectations for all parties involved. This agreement ensures that the learner is supported throughout the course and that the knowledge gained will be applied in their workplace to improve service delivery and patient outcomes. 

    What is an organisational sponsor?

    An organisational sponsor is a representative from the learner’s employing organisation who supports their application and participation in the course. This person may be a line manager or senior leader and is responsible for confirming that the course aligns with the learner’s role and the organisation’s objectives and is able to support the learner to have appropriate time to complete their training. 

    Will I receive the training grant directly?

    No, the training grant will not be paid directly to you. Instead, it will be provided directly to the training provider to cover the course fees. 

    Who are SCW CSU programme team?

    South, Central and West (SCW) is an NHS organisation providing support and transformation services to health and care systems. Our purpose is to support the achievement of the best possible outcomes for people, communities, and populations. With deep roots in the health and social care system, we have a clear perspective on both current and future challenges, and a passion for supporting our customers to address them.   

     

    SCW has been commissioned by NHSE WT&E to design and facilitate the training grant process. This means we will monitor and review all correspondence from potential applicants and ensure each application is reviewed fairly and equitably as part of the assessment process. We will also keep you informed of the outcome before the process is handed back to NHSE WT&E to award the grants.
