Insights Survey and Training Grants

Nationally, there is a growing recognition of the need to rapidly address the increasing demand for long-term condition interventions to achieve better patient outcomes. Healthcare professionals can play a pivotal role in reducing the burden of chronic conditions and ensuring timely, comprehensive care by focusing on prevention, prehabilitation, and rehabilitation. Therefore improving access to cardiac, respiratory and stroke rehabilitation and reducing health inequalities.

As NHS England’s Workforce, Training and Education (NHSE WT&E) Programme Team, we recognise our role in providing access to high-quality education and training. Our ambition is to increase access to training for the generalist workforce that equips them to deliver ‘at home’ community and primary care-based interventions. Thereby, increasing access to personalised care, prehabilitation and community-based rehabilitation models of care for cardiovascular, respiratory and stroke conditions for patient populations.

NHSE WT&E has commissioned NHS South Central and West (SCW) to carry out two exploratory initiatives; an insights survey and to pilot a training grant process. The aim is to build a picture of the current and future skills requirements for the generalist workforce and what this means for the commissioning and dissemination of training and education opportunities moving forward.

Cardiovascular, Respiratory and Stroke Workforce Insights Survey

The insights survey seeks to understand your experiences and opinions on the following:

  • What are the current and future knowledge, skills and abilities requirements for developing the generalist workforce?

  • To what extent are existing courses accessible and provide the relevant skills to meet the workforce skill requirements for new models of care?

We would like to hear from you if you are:

  1. Currently working within community or primary care-based settings OR

  1. Have a role that interfaces with community or primary care-based settings, OR

  1. Currently delivering personalised care, prehabilitation or rehabilitation interventions for cardiovascular, respiratory or stroke conditions.

The survey will close on Friday 17th January 2025.

Cardiovascular, Respiratory and Stroke Training Grants

The pilot of the training grant process will offer training grants of up to £3,000 per applicant to enable healthcare professionals to access level 7 (postgraduate) courses offering advanced training in long-term conditions (either generalist or in a specific condition area across cardiovascular, respiratory and stroke).

  • Applicants will have the opportunity to apply for full or partial funding for courses relevant to delivering personalised care, prehabilitation or rehabilitation interventions.

  • The learning from this pilot training grant process will be used to inform the strategy for training grants in the future.

What do you need to know?
