Health Commercial System - Adoption Health Check

The Department of Health and Social Care are conducting a nationwide Health Check [link] on the adoption of the NHS Health Commercial System. The system is centrally funded and has been in place since 2021 for use at all NHS organisations across England.

This is an opportunity to review system adoption across the country to adjust and improve the system collaboratively while working towards a national standard approach. This will facilitate the NHS and DHSC will be better able to adapt the system specifically as well as reach our collective 10-year goal of NHS digitalisation. We are seeking a wide variety of feedback and input from all organisations and users of the system. This includes system leads and delegated admins but equally importantly BAU users who may interact with the system regularly.

Please see below [link] where you will see we are running a comprehensive survey via the Health Check portal [link]. Please bookmark and check in regularly for the latest updates. This is an ideal opportunity to fully interact with the Health Check process.

As a result of your cooperation and feedback, we hope to deliver:

  • Top tips for you

  • Local challenges addressed and advice provided

  • Specific technical improvements to the Health Family e-commercial system

  • Wider strategic decisions on process

  • Advice on complex process & collaborative practices

  • National standardisation and best practice informed by hands on users, ratified & approved by top level.

We encourage you to share this Health Check microsite (link when live) with wider users, groups and departments. Please feel free to distribute extensively as we are seeking varied views and opinions from diverse sources and perspectives.

The timeline moves broadly from setup → data collection → engagement → analysis → implementation and training.

Our team have specialist expertise in implementing and embedding the commercial system in various ICBs and CSUs. We can work alongside your team to:

  • Ensure your information within the commercial system is complete, accurate and timely
  • Run contract amnesties
  • Help establish a minimum data set for contract activity
  • Streamline processes and functions to improve efficiency
  • Deliver targeted training to embed the system more fully
  • Produce recommendations and action plans which ensure you continue to get the most out of the system
  • Ensure you stay aligned with the latest direction of travel and governance from the centre.

Not only does full adoption of the system within commercial processes and functions increase opportunities for efficiency and cost effectiveness but it will also ensure your compliance with the latest legal and regulatory reporting requirements.
