Head of Primary Care Careers @ Primary Care Careers

I joined the NHS in 2020 with a desire to share the knowledge and experience I’d gained working in the people profession and to create sustainable value for primary care.  In April 2021 Primary Care Careers (PCC) was launched with the ambition of supporting with the attraction, recruitment and retention of the primary care workforce.  The long-term objectives of the service being to provide one recruitment solution for the east of England and to make primary care a career destination.  In short, a service that would be used and valued by hiring managers, candidates, the current and potential workforce, integrated care boards (ICBs) and other stakeholders.

The PCC website was launched in November 2022 and currently gets 20,000 views a month and in 2023/24 PCC:

    • Worked with five ICBs
    • Worked with 412 practices
    • Worked with 99 primary care networks (PCNs)
    • Received 34,476 applications
    • Advertised 2,521 roles
    • Introduced the support page for people working in primary care
    • Added an accessibility toolbar to the PCC website.

More than 80% of the practices and PCNs use PCC to recruit to their vacancies and PCC constantly achieves a 70% fill rate.  In 2024/25 the PCC service is being piloted across the wider primary care environment to include community pharmacy, dentistry and optometry (POD).  PCC are a virtual team so there are no geographical boundaries regarding what locations we work in.

Working with colleagues from across primary has been, and continues to be, and amazing and rewarding experience for all the PCC team.
