Making Every Contact Count in acute healthcare settings

Share your experience

NHS South, Central and West (SCW) is working on behalf of NHS England to undertake a project focused on Making Every Contact Count (MECC) and its application to address health inequalities.

By ‘MECC’, we mean using every interaction as an opportunity for a health promoting intervention. Enabling staff to recognise opportunities to impact people’s health and wellbeing by delivering ‘very brief’ or ‘brief’ evidence-based interventions for lifestyle behavioural change.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the delivery of MECC in acute healthcare settings. We are looking for stories, case studies and examples of best practice to understand the application of MECC and how it can be used to address healthcare inequalities. We aim to showcase real world examples of how effectively utilising every contact can have an impact on healthy behaviours.

We are looking for examples of using MECC in acute healthcare settings and would like to hear about the following:

  • Your MECC project journey and learning
  • What training or resources were used for your staff
  • What impact and benefits did MECC make to staff and patients.

The closing date for submissions is Friday 16th February 2024, after which time submissions will be reviewed and a selected number will be featured in MECC guidance for acute settings.
