Online workshop: Workforce Planning for the Data, Digital and Technology Sector
Members of professional bodies in 2020 were instrumental in helping HEE develop scenarios of what the future could look like for the digital, data and technology workforce sector in health and care. These scenarios were used in a demand forecasting exercise involving NHS trusts to estimate workforce capacity (size) and capability (including in-demand, emerging, new and critical job roles) required in this sector between now and 2030. Particular emphasis was placed on workforce requirements in a scenario whereby the delivery of health and care services will be data- and technology-driven. The results of the exercise and subsequent recommendations were released in summary and full reports made available on the HEE website - Data Driven Healthcare in 2030: Transformation Requirements of the NHS Digital Technology and Health Informatics Workforce.
We would like to reconvene a meeting with representatives of professional bodies in this sector to:
- Present the results of the demand forecasting exercise.
- Ask professional bodies to contribute to the development of a national workforce plan to meet the capacity and capability challenges identified in HEE’s report.
- Capture ideas and suggestions in helping to ensure an adequate supply of skills and expertise into the digital, data and technology sector.
