COVID treatments for the highest risk non-hospitalised patients are available on the NHS. These may prevent hospitalisation and death in some of your patients. These include neutralising monoclonal antibodies (nMABS) and antivirals.
To ensure patients access treatment promptly, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) will work with primary care and other providers, including healthcare teams in detained estates, to develop local clinical pathways for oral antivirals and IV treatments. Pathways may differ locally and your ICB will contact you to confirm arrangements. Please contact them if you don’t have the information you need by 27 June 2023 using the information emailed to you last week.
Healthcare providers in detained estates must ensure they follow the local ICB COVID treatment pathway for any detained person who is at highest risk and tests positive for COVID.
FP10s must be available at all detained sites so that they can be used where local ICB pathways include GP prescribing.
Detained Estates, including those with on-site pharmacies, will not stock oral antivirals but will access this via external dispensing service providers who will deliver the dispensed antiviral to the establishment agreed with the ICB.
This means that FP10s will need to be used if the pathway includes prescribing of oral antivirals by the detained estate GP or non-medical prescribers.
